Have questions about hot tub or pool service? Here are answers to some of the most common questions we get. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out.
How do I know if my hot tub water chemistry is off?
The most common signs that your hot tub water chemistry is out of balance include cloudy or green water, a strong chlorine or chemical smell, skin or eye irritation after soaking, foam on the surface, or a slippery feeling on the shell walls.
Water that looks clear isn't necessarily safe — pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels can all be off without visible signs. The only reliable way to know is to test. Prestige Spa tests and balances water chemistry on every maintenance visit. Call (509) 304-2423 to schedule service.
How often should hot tub filters be cleaned or replaced?
Hot tub filters should be rinsed with a garden hose every 4 to 6 weeks and chemically cleaned every 3 to 4 months. Most filters should be replaced entirely once a year, or sooner if they show visible damage, collapse, or no longer clean up properly after a chemical rinse.
Running a hot tub with a dirty or degraded filter puts extra strain on your pump and compromises water quality. Prestige Spa inspects and services filters on every maintenance visit so you're never running on a clogged filter without knowing it.
How often should a hot tub be drained and refilled?
Most residential hot tubs should be fully drained and refilled every 3 to 4 months. The frequency depends on how often it's used and how many bathers it sees — higher usage means dissolved solids build up faster and water becomes harder to keep balanced no matter how much chemical you add.
A simple rule: divide your hot tub's gallon capacity by 3, then divide by the average number of daily bathers. That gives you your recommended drain interval in days. Prestige Spa handles drains and refills as part of our maintenance schedule.
What happens if I skip regular hot tub maintenance?
Skipping maintenance leads to a predictable chain of problems. First, water chemistry drifts out of balance — this causes skin and eye irritation and makes the water unsafe to use. Left longer, unbalanced water begins to corrode metal components, scale up heater elements, and degrade seals and fittings.
Neglected filters restrict water flow, which overworks the pump motor and shortens its lifespan. What starts as a missed service visit can compound into hundreds or thousands of dollars in repairs. Consistent maintenance is significantly less expensive than reactive repair.
Can Prestige Spa set up a recurring maintenance schedule?
Yes. Prestige Spa offers recurring maintenance visits on a schedule that fits your hot tub's usage and your calendar. We'll set up a service frequency based on how often your hot tub is used, document every visit, and reach out proactively when your next service is due.
