asked questions
Have questions about hot tub or pool service? Here are answers to some of the most common questions we get. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out.
How often should a residential pool be professionally cleaned?
Most residential pools benefit from professional service once a week during active swim season, and every 2 to 4 weeks during the off-season when usage drops. Pools with heavy use, surrounding trees, or irrigated landscaping nearby may need more frequent service to manage debris and maintain water balance.
Prestige Spa provides scheduled pool cleaning and maintenance for homeowners throughout Ellensburg and Kittitas County. Call (509) 304-2423 to discuss a schedule for your pool.
What pool water chemistry levels should I be maintaining?
Safe, comfortable pool water requires several chemistry parameters to stay within target ranges:
- Free chlorine: 1.0 – 3.0 ppm
- pH: 7.2 – 7.6
- Total alkalinity: 80 – 120 ppm
- Calcium hardness: 200 – 400 ppm
- Cyanuric acid (stabilizer): 30 – 50 ppm for outdoor pools
Water outside these ranges can cause skin and eye irritation, corrode equipment, and cloud or stain the pool surface. Prestige Spa tests all parameters on every service visit and adjusts as needed.
How do I know if my pool filter needs to be serviced?
Common signs your pool filter needs attention include cloudy water that doesn't clear up after chemical treatment, reduced return flow from jets, a pressure gauge reading 8 to 10 psi above your clean baseline, or visible debris passing back into the pool.
For cartridge filters, cleaning is typically needed every 4 to 6 weeks during swim season. Sand and DE filters should be backwashed when pressure rises 8 to 10 psi above normal. Prestige Spa inspects and services filters on every pool maintenance visit.
Do you provide pool service year-round in Central Washington?
Yes. Prestige Spa provides pool maintenance services year-round throughout Central Washington, including Ellensburg and surrounding communities in Kittitas County. While swim season drives the heaviest service schedule, pools still require off-season attention — water chemistry needs to stay balanced, equipment should be inspected before winter, and covered pools still need periodic checks.
Call (509) 304-2423 to discuss year-round service options for your pool.
Can poor pool chemistry damage my equipment?
Yes — unbalanced pool water is one of the leading causes of premature equipment failure. Low pH makes water acidic, which corrodes metal fittings, heater elements, and pump components. High pH causes calcium scaling that clogs filters, reduces heater efficiency, and clouds water.
Low calcium hardness etches plaster and fiberglass surfaces over time. High chlorine levels degrade o-rings and seals. The cost of maintaining proper chemistry is a fraction of what it costs to replace a heater, pump, or resurface a pool. Prestige Spa keeps chemistry in range on every visit.
